The Sauna Workshop is a unique presentation of the power of Sauna for our health. Divided into two parts, starting with a keynote presentation of the latest scientific knowledge about sauna, shaped in an easily understandable form continues with practical demonstration and experience inside the Spa.

Not knowing is an opportunity...

Monday, 23. December 2019; "This year, I will invite my mum to the Spa as a Christmas present", said my friend Cindy a couple of days before Christmas. And she continued: "We worked so hard this year. We hardly have had any time for each other. Mom has never been to a spa. I want her to remember these holidays forever. And, if  she will like it, we'll become regular users."

I admit I expected to be asked for suggestions or advice as she knows my passion for the sauna. But she didn't.
A few days later, we had lunch together. Of course, I eagerly asked them how it was in the spa?

Cindy briefly answered that it was okay. But then her mom upset said: "Okay? I barely survived the boredom. I thought my brain would burn inside the sauna. And we both were tired for the rest of the day!!!"

They didn't have a clue what to do

As you can imagine, I was intrigued but not very surprised. During my intensive spa and sauna research, I witnessed countless similar stories. Of course, I wanted to know more about this latest experience, so I continued with questions. They explained that the spa was beautiful as expected from five stars hotel. The staff was friendly. Even the price was great. They got a special discount for which they not even asked. They couldn't find any bad words, yet the overall experience was disastrous. They even wanted to write a bad review on the web. Why?

We continued with a discussion and soon, a surprisingly straightforward cognition appeared; They didn't have a clue what to do and how to use all those nice layouts and ambient. Nobody was there to instruct them. Not only they didn't know how to. They didn't even know that they didn't know. That is why they couldn't ask me for suggestions or advice earlier. Their only guide was the hourglass on the wall inside the sauna. 

Sound familiar? Anyway, awareness of not knowing is the opportunity to learn.

Workshop program

The workshop is divided into two sections. 1] Keynote presentation - Discussion about the theoretical basis and rationale for sauna bathing. 2] Demonstration and practice - Demonstration and practising the sauna bathing.

1] KEYNOTE PRESENTATION - 60 min

"Sauna therapy is probably one of the most underestimated measures that can be used not only to improve health, wellness or athletic performance but also to prevent and treat some common diseases."

By properly using the sauna, we can achieve astonishing results. You will learn what is going on in your body inside the Sauna and realize that we have far more power over our health than we used to think. We discuss...

1. Basic facts the about sauna...
2. Biological phenomena "responsible" for sauna benefits...
3. Bodily and cellular response to heat stress...
4. Bodily response to cold stress...
5. Importance of resting and relaxations...
6. Effects of the sauna from the science perspective...

...and a bunch of other interesting stuff.

2] DEMONSTRATION & PRACTICE - 120 min

Here you will learn to use the sauna properly. To start modestly and gradually progress until the maximum effectiveness. To the point of understanding, mastering and enjoyment the sauna and its benefits. Including how to overcome the anxiety of fast cooling and other little secrets of sauna bathing.

First-round 

  • Sauna  *( 3 - 10 min )
  • Cooling phase ( 0,5 - 2 min )
  • Rest phase ( 10 - 15 min )

Second-round 

  • Sauna  *( 5 - 15 min )
  • Cooling phase ( 1- 3 min )
  • Rest phase ( 10 - 15 min )

Third-round 

  • Sauna  *( 10 - 20 min )
  • Cooling phase ( 1- 3 min )
  • Rest phase ( 10 - 20 min )

* There isn't a fixed time. Duration stays inside the sauna depend on personal preference and experience. You will be instructed by the SWE instructor.

Important rules and requirements

As you may notice, the workshop schedule is quite intense. In order to make the most of the time available, some requirements and rules must be followed.

Schedule

Entrance to the hall will be open until the official start according to the schedule. After the workshop begins, entry is no longer possible. The Spa demonstration and experience starts 15 minutes after the keynote presentation.

Health

The sauna bathing is a stress to the body. Sauna bathing is not recommended in case of any acute health issue (fever, cold, open wound, etc.). The participant is obligated to inform the instructor in the case of a chronic health condition.

Food, drinks

Eating is not permitted at the workshop. Soft drinks, preferably water, are allowed.

Clothing

Please check the dress code of the particular Spa where the workshop is organised. Usually, it is suggested to bring the swimwear and slippers.

Intoxicants, drugs, tobacco

No drugs, alcohol, tobacco or other intoxicants are allowed; this also applies to tranquillizers, sleeping pills, and all other sedatives. Those taking medicines or drugs on a doctor's prescription should notify the instructor. 

Phones, Recording Devices and Cameras

Mobile phones or any other equipment for capturing an image or sound are not permitted.

The Sauna workshop is for those who already use the sauna or may intend to use it and wants to know-how. It is also for those who for any reason don't want to use the sauna, however, please, be advised; there is a fair amount of chance that we persuade you to become a regular user and thus improve your health and wellbeing.
So, If you want to know the best way of using the sauna and understand better the body and biological reasons for sauna benefits, this is the workshop for you.
Doesn't hurt to try. You may realize that you have more power over your health than you used to think.
